Dentistry Seeing Trends (12/26/09)

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention released a recent study that shows the following: 1) Diet and habits change during each generation 2) Many children are not drinking fluoridated water. 3) Soda, sports drinks and alternative drinks are the rage. 4) Bottled water that does not contain fluoride is extremely popular. 5) Only 45% of our public water is fluoridated. These trends show the following results: 1) An increase of 25% dental caries (decay) in children ages 2-5. 2) Many families have poor or no dental benefits, so they opt not to see a dentist.

Family Dental Gives Back to the Community (12/17/09)

Through the years, FDA has tried to give back to the community who has supported us for the past 40 years. This includes projects for the nearby community and also for those who serve elsewhere. Recently, Family Dental team members have participated in the following campaigns: 1) SOCK-IT-TO-ME: A local project that collects socks for area shelters. (You should have seen all the socks we contributed!) 2) OPERATION SHOEBOX: A nationwide project which collects shoe boxes full of needed items and ships them to our servicemen. 3) ADOPTED HOLIDAY FAMILY: Our team has adopted an entire family each year and provided them with numerous gifts for each family member plus abundant food for the family. Families have been selected for us by school guidance counselors.

We Need Your Email! (12/15/09)

With the 21st century now with us, we are trying to utilize the current technology as efficiently as possible. With a new program in effect, we are now able to do our hygiene confirmations through e-mails, in bulk. We know that postcards were getting lost and hidden in catalogs in your mailbox so this will hopefully solve some of the problems of communication. We ask that you "unblock" our e-mails that we send you, which will arrive with the following address, "FDAPA@aol.com." In addition, if you have changed your e-mail address, please alert us so that we can make that change in our system also. We realize that land phones are becoming obsolete, answering phones aren't getting checked but e-mails seem to be the one communication that most of you are using. Help us help you - and give us another avenue of reaching us in case of emergency.

Family Dental Turns 40! (11/25/09)

In November 1969, Dr. Moskowitz joined Dr. Federick Peters in this office in Paoli - marking nearly 40 years of service to the community. Soon after, Dr. Peters retired (first to the Poconos, and soon after to Florida) and the rest is history! Our second bright spot occurred when Dr. Musso joined us in 1975. Beginning in 1977, five more offices were added, and at one time the team had more than 50 members on board. By 1989 Family Dental started to pare down to our current Paoli office where our 15 team members are located. It has been a long and exciting journey. Last year we honored those patients who have remained with us from the beginning. They have truly formed the backbone of Family Dental, and we continue to meet new patients each day. We feel confident that SERVICE is the ingredient that has set Family Dental apart from the ordinary dental office. Despite the state of the economy, service will continue to be one of the most important elements in our total delivery of care to you. If there is ever more we can do for you, we hope you will bring it to our attention so that we can continue to grow.

Chew On This! (3/25/09)

Brushing and flossing will help keep your teeth and mouth healthy, but there are some foods that will also help. Raw, hard fruits and veggies make your mouth water and help wash away the debris that can cause decay and gum disease. Carrots and apples are good choices. Cheese balances your mouth's pH level, making it less hospitable to decay-causing bacteria. The calcium also helps build enamel on teeth that haven't grown in yet. Sugarless gum chewed after a meal increases saliva flow and helps neutralize tooth-decaying acids.
